Warehouse Shift Manager Job – Birmingham

We are seeking a driven and experienced Warehouse Shift Manager to join our clients growing warehouse operations team at Minworth, Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Warehousing professional to lead a high-performing team and support our expanding distribution and fulfilment operations.

As a hands-on Warehouse Shift Manager, you will oversee inbound logistics, storage, inventory control, pick and pack operations, and dispatch functions. You will play a vital role in maintaining operational excellence, improving warehouse performance, and delivering outstanding service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Performance

• Manage incoming and outgoing shipments ensuring efficiency and accuracy

• Oversee inbound, storage, inventory control, picking, packing and dispatch operations

• Ensure customer orders meet specific requirements prior to despatch

• Maintain agreed service levels and deliver first-class operational performance

• Manage pick accuracy and Quality Assurance processes

• Support stock investigations and customer stock takes

• Ensure warehouse projects are completed to required standards

• Liaise with internal departments to meet customer requirements

Leadership & People Management

• Lead, motivate and develop a team to achieve operational targets

• Manage workforce planning, rotas, hours and overtime

• Conduct onboarding and training for new employees

• Carry out appraisals, absence management, investigations and disciplinary procedures

• Coach team members in problem-solving and continuous improvement practices

• Foster a positive, proactive and accountable team culture

Compliance, Safety & Standards

• Maintain a safe working environment in line with statutory law and company policies

• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety regulations and site procedures

• Enforce safe systems of work and operational standards

• Support and maintain BRCGS compliance standards

• Ensure SOPs, SSOWs and Risk Assessments are followed and updated

• Validate cleaning records and hygiene standards

• Report product safety incidents and monitor pest control standards

Continuous Improvement

• Drive warehouse efficiency and performance improvements

• Embed operational best practices and process standards

• Promote a culture of ownership, accountability and excellence

Skills & Experience Required

• Proven experience as a Logistics Shift Manager, Warehouse Shift Manager, or First Line Manager

• Experience within warehousing, distribution, or supply chain environments

• Strong leadership and people management skills

• Excellent communication skills at all organisational levels

• Ability to work under pressure with strong attention to detail

• Counterbalance Forklift Licence (Essential)

• VNA Licence (Desirable)

• Level 3 Health & Safety Qualification such as Institution of Occupational Safety and Health IOSH (Desirable)
