Job title:
Payroll Manager
How long have you worked in the recruitment industry, and what brought you into your current role?
I’ve been working in payroll for over 30 years, and throughout that time I’ve built up a deep understanding of how vital accurate payroll is to a business. I came into my role at The Recruitment Group because I was excited by the opportunity to bring my experience into a people‑focussed, values‑led organisation where the work we do makes a real difference to so many people each week.
What do you enjoy most about your role at The Recruitment Group in today’s recruitment landscape?
What I enjoy most is being part of a team where every week is different, and where what I do directly supports both our internal teams and the people we place. I love being able to make sure payroll is dependable and efficient, and that everyone is paid accurately and on time — it’s a small but meaningful part of building trust with our candidates and clients.
Which of our core values resonates most with you, and why?
All of our values are important, but being credible really stands out to me. In payroll, credibility is everything, it means people can trust that we know what we’re doing, that everything is compliant and professional, and that we deliver consistently. That trust is something I care deeply about and strive to uphold every day.
How do you ensure your payroll processes support the wider team to deliver great results?
I make sure our payroll processes are clear, accurate and efficient, and that everyone involved knows what’s happening and when. That means reviewing and improving what we do, using systems that help us reduce errors, and always being open to feedback from the wider team. When payroll runs well, it supports the whole business to perform well too.
In your role, how do you help TRG continue to exceed client expectations in such a competitive industry?
By making payroll reliable, compliant and straightforward for everyone we work with. In recruitment, people’s livelihoods depend on getting the little things right, and when payroll is dependable, it strengthens our reputation as a partner people can trust.
Is there an initiative or project you’ve completed at TRG that you’re particularly proud of?
I’m really proud of helping lead our move to a more automated and modern payroll platform designed with recruitment in mind. It has helped us work more efficiently, reduced manual admin, and enabled us to focus more on supporting internal teams and improving our overall service.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to a role in the recruitment industry?
My advice would be to stay curious and open to learning, and to make strong, genuine relationships, not just with clients and candidates, but with colleagues too. The industry moves quickly, and those who adapt, communicate clearly and care about doing a great job will go far.
What do you most enjoy doing in your spare time?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, travelling and going caravanning whenever I can. Those times away are some of my favourites, and they give me energy and perspective for everything I do at work.
