SMT Operator

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading manufacturing business based in Loughborough, who are looking for an experienced SMT Operator to join their production team on a temp-to-perm basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in electronics manufacturing and SMT production who is looking to join an established and technically focused environment.

The Role

As an SMT Operator, you will be responsible for setting up, operating and monitoring SMT production equipment to ensure the efficient manufacture of high-quality PCB assemblies.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Setting up and operating SMT production equipment, including pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens and AOI/inspection systems.
• Loading components, feeders and stencils ready for production.
• Carrying out machine program changes and making adjustments where required.
• Monitoring production processes to ensure accurate component placement and soldering.
• Performing visual and automated inspections of PCB assemblies.
• Reading and interpreting PCB layouts, engineering drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs and work instructions.
• Completing production, quality and process documentation accurately.
• Carrying out basic equipment maintenance and reporting any faults or issues.
• Working closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams to identify and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Following all health & safety, quality and ESD procedures.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Supporting continuous improvement activities across the manufacturing process.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Strong experience working within SMT production, including set-up, operation and basic maintenance of SMT lines.
• Experience with equipment such as pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens and AOI.
• The ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including PCB layouts, assembly drawings, BOMs and work instructions.
• A good understanding of electronics manufacturing quality standards and processes.
• Ideally, experience working within an ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485 environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and good manual dexterity when handling small electronic components.
• Basic IT and data-entry skills for recording production information, process parameters and quality records.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A willingness to follow health, safety and ESD procedures at all times.
• Previous experience within electronics manufacturing or PCB/SMT assembly.

A vocational or technical qualification in electronics, electrical engineering or manufacturing would be advantageous but is not essential where relevant practical experience can be demonstrated.
