Operations Manager (Production / Manufacturing) – Permanent Contract

Salary: £34,000pa - £40,000pa (D.O.E)

Hours of Work: 39 hours per week – Monday–Thursday, 7:30am – 4:45pm, and Friday, 7:30am – 12:45pm

Location: Smethwick, Birmingham (B67)

Duties:

  • Lead, manage, and motivate the 30 – 35 staff within the production team on a day-to-day basis

  • Supplier engagement, handling purchasing enquiries, liaising with suppliers on purchasing of parts and components

  • Liaising with Team Leaders, ensuring resources are organized effectively and efficiently to meet output plans, while meeting quality standards

  • Manage the production team and process, focussing on output throughout the shift across the areas of production

  • Implement and maintain metrics across production on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis

  • Provide accurate and timely management information

  • Work in co-operation with the project and sales teams to maintain a smooth production flow that meets overall output requirements, with flexibility to react to short term changes in priorities

  • Support Team Leaders to ensure that all production machinery is maintained and in working order

  • Participate in performance management and development reviews, setting objectives for the production team

  • Guide and mentor direct reports and the wider production team, to drive and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and team working in all aspects of production

  • Maintain and develop good relations with employees, keeping staff regularly informed of changes and developments and provide positive and motivated leadership

  • Ensure resource and training plans are in place across the production team

  • Assisting with recruitment and selection, grievance and disciplinary hearings, and monitoring attendance

  • Maintain and develop health and safety on-site and in conjunction with the company’s health and safety policies and safe working practices

  • Ensure that production waste is correctly collected and segregated and that it is disposed of in accordance with company procedures and current environmental legislation


Candidate:

  • Previous experience in a similar Operations Manager or Supervisor role is essential

  • Previous experience of managing or supervising in a production or manufacturing environment is highly desirable

  • Experience implementing lean / modern improvement initiatives is highly desirable

  • Experience engaging with suppliers, negotiating rates with suppliers when required, handling supplier purchasing duties

  • Record of monitoring production output and ensuring that production targets and KPIs are being met

  • Excellent organisation skills

  • Experience in advising and implementing best practice within a production environment

  • Ability to work to deadlines, managing time demands across the business

  • Employee management experience, able to motivate staff members and encourage career development
