The role reports to the Head of Cultivation and Plant Sciences. Responsibilities and duties performed will be diverse with the opportunity to learn a great deal of agronomic practice. The Horticultural tech will sometimes be required for critical tasks such as propagation, i.e., cuttings for new batch creation, aged stock culling, sanitation of trays, lids, and facilities, deployment pest management, as well as plant care (pruning, defoliation, and trellis support), waste destruction, and room turnover and transfers. We are looking to develop a dynamic team capable of supporting the production system within a developing business.
Key Responsibilities & Outputs
Waste destruction and facility housekeeping duties
Perform harvesting duties
Monitoring the environmental conditions of each room
Ensure use, stock, and upkeep of PPE, equipment, tools, needed to perform tasks.
Between grow-cycles, or “room transfers”, each grow room is to be fully sterilized and sanitized according to SOPs.
Tables cleaned, vacuumed, and scrubbed with approved products to remove dirt, debris, and other detritus.
Observe, Identify, and report on growth
Responsible for assisting with new batch creation from seeds or meristems, or clones. During the rooting phase, clones are to be inspected daily for moisture levels, humidity, and the dome openings adjusted accordingly.
When needed, assisting with the genetic stabilization program by collecting pollen, fertilizing female plants, and collecting mature seeds.
To locate and identify pests, as well as monitor changes in location and abundance.
Always maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and sterility. This includes the regular cleaning and sterilization of tools, equipment, and production rooms.
Experience and Knowledge:
Used to practical hands-on working and happy to work in with the team.
Comfortable working on own initiative as well as part of a small team.
Horticultural experience if food or ornamental crops
Experience in various realms of herbivory - pruning, maintenance, de-leafing; consuming or harvesting; and sterilization of rooms.
Ideally experience in clonal propagation techniques, monitoring the environment for each phase of rooting, vegetative growth, and mature mothers.
Multitask with an ability to prioritize tasks in addition to being time minded. Forward and future thinking is required.
Communication skills are a must, to write reports, train staff, forecast, and narrate matters of importance to management and entry-level staff.
Develop and maintain positive and constructive mutually beneficial relationships with people.
