Design & Development Engineer


£35,000 - £50,000 dependant on experience

Design & Development Engineer Field: Manufacturing Engineering/Development Engineer/Design Engineer/ DFA/DFM/DFMA/SolidWorks

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

About the role:

A leading R&D manufacturer of state of the art equipment is looking for a Design & Development Engineer in West Oxfordshire. You will be involved in the design and development of various components, which include power units, hydraulic systems, pressure vessels. Additionally, your role will extend to liaising with customers as well as other internal engineering teams.


  • Design and development of pressure vessels, hydraulic components, hydraulic manifold assemblies, power units and complete hydraulic systems

  • Creation of Bills of Materials (BOMS) using SAP, writing technical reports and documenting performance characteristics

  • Involved in the full product lifecycle (PLM) which includes Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

  • Recommend any modifications to existing products and system designs to improve performance in relation to cost, time and quality initiatives •Design components with SolidWorks

  • Support other engineers with design drawings and critical sign-offs

  • Supervising the assembly and testing of hydraulic components and systems

  • Liaise with customers, sales engineers & internal production/QA departments

About You:

Skills and requirements:

  • Proven industry background within a manufacturing/production setting as well as having mechanical design/drawing experience

  • Previous experience in designing pressure vessels and piped systems would be beneficial

  • Experience of FEA & CFD analysis of pressure vessels and pressurised equipment

  • A good understanding of drawing office methodologies and PLM systems

  • Understanding of Lean & Six Sigma principles

  • Design experience of 2D & 3D CAD, SolidWorks would be beneficial

  • Working to industry standards i.e. ISO9001 2015

  • Good IT skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, customers as well as suppliers
