My life in Recruitment

Ben Ryder - Talent Acquisition Specialist
The Recruitment Group has grown massively over the past year, and we now have over 130 employees working at 13 branches around the country.

We're shining a spotlight on some of our most exciting and varied roles in the business to learn more about them and how they got to where they are today.

First up is Ben Ryder, our Talent Acquisition Specialist. Ben joined us in March and has made an instant impact in the business. As our Talent Acquisition Specialist, he is constantly working to bring the best people into our business, from Consultants and Account Managers to Marketing and HR.

Hardworking and extremely popular with his colleagues and candidates alike, Ben's efforts ensure we recruit and keep the best people in the business.

Hi Ben! Can you tell us how you got into the world of Recruitment?

Hi, I'm Ben Ryder and I'm the Talent Acquisition Specialist at The Recruitment Group.

My journey in recruitment started around ten years ago. I started out in Education Recruitment on a temporary desk working with primary schools in Derbyshire. Straight away I loved the fast-paced nature of it, and how quickly you could learn and develop. Since then, I've worked in I.T, Professional services and Commercial Recruitment, mainly focusing on permanent placements. Now I am working here at The Recruitment Group, finding professional talent looking to take the next step in their career..

You must have dealt with loads of people in that time, what's your secret to dealing with candidates and clients?

In my career to date, I must have placed hundreds, if not thousands of candidates in roles- and dealt with just as many clients. I know what they want from a consultant, and to keep it simple, it's communication, respect, and transparency. If you give them that, you are likely to have a candidate or client who trusts you every time they're hiring or looking for a new role.

What's the best thing about working at The Recruitment Group?

The best thing about working here is definitely the people. We've got a really diverse bunch of people, with experience from loads of different backgrounds, but we are all working towards the same goal. We also manage to have a laugh as well, which makes for a really fun working environment. There is always something new happening in the business- it's a really exciting company to work for.

What advice would you give to a candidate looking for a role in 2022?

The advice I'd give to a candidate is that the market is definitely yours. A few years ago, there were thousands of candidates and not enough jobs. Now, there are thousands of jobs and not enough candidates. So again, it’s just keeping in touch, making sure that you are communicating with your consultant and being honest with them. If you've got a job interview, tell us. We are used to hearing no as an answer! And again, when you are joining a company, do your research, look at the values and make sure that your values align. Everyone who joins us at The Recruitment Group, their values are aligned with ours, which is why people choose to stay with us after they join!
